What blacklisting an IP address means?

The tool checks whether the given IP address or URL is listed in the Spamhaus Block List (SBL).

That is how email system providers use that database to filter out spam emails before they are finally sent out to the end-user

For example, if you're sending an email promoting your new product, some receivers may mark that email as spam.

An ISP or government could block your IP, and there is a high chance of getting blocked. We recommend that you don't use it.

IP address blacklisting is the process or method to filter out or block illegitimate or malicious IP addresses from accessing your network.

It's when your web hosting company ignores your IP address. Spam is an email sent without prior approval of the recipient. It is also known as junk mail or UBE spam.

A recent study suggests that email traffic consists of almost 80% of all spam emails. Spam Blacklist If you've ever opened an email and thought, "oh my gosh, this is a spam email

What is a DNSBL?

A DNSBL stands for Domain Name System Blacklist, which is the system used to let the administrator block the messages from specific IP addresses that have a history of sending spam.

The list is based on IP addresses and numeric values that identify every device or computer connected to the Internet. It's easy to understand how many people are online because the list comes from IP addresses.

Suppose a maintainer of a blacklist in the past has received any spam from a specific domain.

Some sites would consider it spam and may blacklist the server from their servers altogether.

All the messages sent from that particular server would be rejected/flagged by all the websites that use that blacklist to avoid spam.

DNSBLs are the first line of defense in fighting the spread of spam. There are dozens of DNSBLs online, each with rules and offensive categories to focus on.

The most common nasty type of content is spam, but some blacklists focus on hacking, malware, botnets, etc.

The email administrators use these DNSBLs to check if the incoming email is generated or originated from the blacklisted IP address.

What is SURBL?

SURBL is a list of websites that have appeared in unsolicited messages.

It is the second line of defense, and not all anti-spam filters can use it.

Spam messages are not detected by any spam detection system that I know of; the only way to stop spam is to remove spammers from the network.

Email administrators use the SURBLs to scan the email messages' body text for any URLs that match a URL black list and then report back to the company, letting them know if

Spam can be found in various locations, including emails, chat rooms, web pages, and other places. Your messages are treated as spam or handled accordingly.

Note:

Interestingly, the websites in unsolicited messages are more consistently used than the rapidly changing botnet IP addresses used to send the vast majority of them.

Many different companies provide different services related to IP addresses. The IP Address Owner has to submit a complaint about removing their IP address to various DNSBLs and SURBLs.

How an IP blacklist integrates with an Email service?

The process is simple.

  • Suppose you send an email from [email protected] to some user Muhammed.
  • Mike's mail server will determine the sender's IP address and resolve it into the domain name.
  • Mike's mail server checks the domain and the sender's IP address in the IP/domain blacklist database.
  • If the IP or domain is blacklisted, your email will likely land in Mike's spam/junk mail folder without the message being scanned.
  • If the IP or domain is already in the repetitive spam sender list, the ISP's spam filters will reject its message, meaning it won't even reach Mike's spam folder.

Why is my IP address blacklisted?

A black spam list is a list of IP addresses that send out spam.

Some IP addresses send emails that appear to be from your recipient but are not. They look like they are coming from your address.

Your IP may be in a single blacklist or multiple backlists.

That's the case. Each blacklist is managed independently and has criteria for listing or delisting IP addresses.

There are several reasons that your IP is on the blacklist.

  1. The primary reason a site gets blacklisted is the virus, malware, and sending many spam emails.

If you run a mail server but are not adequately configuring it to prevent spam, and you end up sending spam, your IP address becomes blacklisted.

Maybe you've been trying to purchase email lists with lots of incorrect or spam email addresses for a long time. You've probably wasted a lot of time on it.

Many of the emails you get in your inbox are marked as spam.

Someone is using your email address for spam.

There is another scenario where your IP is on the blacklist, even if you didn't do anything wrong.

If the server is getting an invalid address, check the settings in your network configuration.

You could check the logs for all the banned IP addresses and identify the ones your internet service provider assigned.

Although not something you want to be doing, spamming and bot activities are part of everyday life for eCommerce sites.

Only your Internet Service Provider knows who had that IP address before assigning it to you.

  1. If you're not following best practices for website building, chances are that you'll get blacklisted by a legitimate website.

Some reasons may have played a role in this regard. If your website is spammy or if you are getting backlinks from spammy websites.

Your website is suspected of being hacked.

Once the website is added to the search engine's black list, it will disappear from the Internet.
